Layers abstractly represents a desert and mountain landscape with a river. The wood pieces at the bottom are thicker and lighter in color, and toward the top the shapes get thinner and darker to suggest receding into greater distance away from the viewer.
I recently visited these folks and saw how the sculpture has matured. I was happy to see that while the sculpture’s colors deepened overall, as usual with time, the contrasting hues are intact and the depth-perception optical illusion still works!
